Mission

Leah Peterson

Leah Peterson
- Physiotherapist
PT, MScPT, BSc (Kinesiology)

Leah graduated from the Physical Therapy program at the University of Alberta after completing her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. She enjoys working with all patient populations, including athletes, post-surgical, joint replacements, and chronic pain. Leah has a special interest in treating dancers due to her personal experience training and competing in multiple styles of dance. Leah has been a patient herself in physiotherapy, both pre and post-surgery, and she is excited to bring this unique perspective into her practice.  She plans to complete further educational courses in dry needling, vestibular rehabilitation, and manual therapy levels. Outside of work, Leah enjoys participating in dance, spin, and barre classes as well as a variety of sports including volleyball and slow-pitch.

Kristy Wu

Kristy Wu

Kristy was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She has always been involved in athletics, having competed as a varsity field hockey player during her undergraduate degree. Through various injuries, she has gained a better understanding of human kinetics and importance of proper rehabilitation. Nowadays, Kristy keeps active with running, biking, golfing and hiking. Kristy completed her undergraduate degree in Foods and Nutrition at the University of Prince Edward Island in 2013, after which she graduated from the University of Alberta's Master of Science in Physical Therapy program. Since graduating, Kristy continues to seek additional certification in her field. She has obtained her Level 1 Manual Therapy certification and Level 1 Functional Dry Needling. She plans on completing her upper and lower level Mulligan Certification and Level 1 Pelvic Health in the next year.  

 Kristy uses an individualized approach including manual therapy, dry needling, corrective exercises, and education to achieve optimal results. Her main goal is to help her patients return to doing what they love. Her special interests include sport-related and running injuries.

Dr. Philip Nelson

Dr. Phil Nelson grew up in Saint John, New Brunswick. He graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree, where he was also the varsity basketball trainer. Furthering his education, Dr. Nelson graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto before chasing the mountains and arriving in Calgary. On his days off, Dr. Nelson can be found doing a multitude of activities including hiking and skiing. He is an active member of the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sports Medicine Team, a patroller with the Canadian Ski Patrol and is the official Chiropractor of the Alberta Ballet. Dr. Nelson has always been passionate about health and he is a firm believer that “pre-habilitation”, proper biomechanics, and education will lead to a happier, healthier life.

Katja Ruohio

Katja graduated from the massage program at Mount Royal University in June 2009. She does various types of massage including Deep Tissue, Therapeutic/Sports Massage, Myofascial Cupping, TMJ, Prenatal, and some relaxation. She tends to specialize more in Deep Tissue, Therapeutic/Sports Massage, and Myofascial Cupping. She looks forward to extending her knowledge about massage and finding new ways in which she is able to help others. She is quite passionate about helping others and this is what drew her to being a massage therapist. She also loves being able to help teach people about their bodies.

Karen Vito

Karen's passion for dance and her recovery from a dance-related injury led her to become a Massage Therapist, graduating from MaKami College as a 3,000 hour Registered Massage Therapist. She saw the amazing benefits of regular massage for maintenance, injury prevention and recovery. Karen is certified in relaxation, therapeutic, sport massage, TMJ massage and hot stone massage, to name a few. In addition to completing her RMT designation, Karen has also completed her Fascial Movement Taping Certification. Karen also dances and performs in contemporary, modern and ballet productions. With her experience in dance, knowledge in massage therapy and personal training, she hopes to help clients with their sport related injuries. Karen also attended the University of Calgary and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Language Studies.

Jan Parcero

Jan Parcero

Jan graduated from Mount Royal University with a Bachelor's of Health and Physical Education majoring in Physical Literacy. Jan is an advocate for physical activity and overall healthy lifestyle in the community. She has volunteered as a Fitness Trainer and as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach to help athletes improve their performances. Jan is also trained in a wide variety of hands-on and clinical techniques to help with patients' care. As a competitive Olympic Weightlifter Athlete, she uses her knowledge about how the body performs to improve at the sport. She joined the team in March 2015 and is excited to be challenged and to further enhance her knowledge in this field. 

Joy E. Robinson

Joy has been interested in human behavior for many years and is a Registered Psychologist. Her therapeutic approach stems from her belief that the Mind and Body are intricately connected while being  based in the science of the brain and behavior.  She is influenced by the traditional Medical Model as well as the Attachment theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapies and Interpersonal therapeutic approaches, while acknowledging the symbiotic relationship of Alternative and Complementary approaches to aid the psychological concerns of the body, mind, and spirit. She is a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists (1999) and also completed an additional Masters of Science in Mind Body Medicine from Saybrook University of Oakland, California in 2016.  She received her Masters in Educational Psychology from the University of Calgary in 1999.  She is also trained as a social worker and holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Calgary after completing a Bachelor of Arts with a Specialization in Psychology from the University of Alberta. 

Joy works with all ages and enjoys assisting each individual to pursue of their personal best. She has many years of experience working with adolescents, their families, and adults. She has significant training and experience in facilitating groups, specifically, Mind Body Skills groups, Collaborative Parenting groups, Self-Esteem groups, Body-Image groups, Psychotherapy groups for Anxiety, Depression, Eating Disorders, and Stress Management and Wellness.

Joy started her career working in the Addictions and Mental Health field and is a trained Substance Abuse clinician. As well, she has extensive experience (over 15 years) with all forms of Eating Disorders.  She worked for 6 years with the Eating Disorder Program in Calgary and has continued this work in her private counselling practice. She works well with teenagers who are struggling with anxiety, depression, their identity, and their place in the world and is an Adolescent Specialist in Mental Health. As well, she has a strong base in working with anxiety and depression with Adults and assisting their families in understanding these difficult illnesses. She has worked with parents struggling with the mental health concerns of their children and family members, and is able to help them understand and support their loved ones. Joy is flexible in her approach working with children, youth, adults, and their families and is willing to work together to find solutions that may not easily be discovered.  She is an advocate for children and youth and will work with other systems including schools, mental health professionals, the medical community, hospitals, to find the best community resources for her clients. Joy is passionate about deconstructing the stigma of Mental Illness and goes above and beyond for her clients.

Kaylee Groenevelt

Kaylee Groenevelt

Born in a small town in Ontario, Kaylee moved to Calgary at the age of five and has lived here for most of her life. She studied Marketing and Advertising at Lethbridge College from 2012-2014 and brings with her ten years of customer service experience and over 4 years of experience in administrative based roles. She is excited to be a part of the Momentum Health-Mission family and takes pride and satisfaction in working in such an uplifting and team-based environment. When she's not in the clinic working to make your experience as seamless and stress-free as possible, you can find her Volunteering at AARCS (Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society), hiking in the mountains, or writing poetry.

Yuri Rodriguez

Yuri Rodriguez

Yuri was born and raised in Montreal, and moved to Calgary when she was 15 years old. She speaks Spanish, French and English. Yuri completed her high school diploma and then decided to pursue a career in the medical field. She became certified as a medical office assistant/Unit Clerk in 2015. With over 3 years of experience as a medical office assistant, her interest in the medical field grew more. Patient care has been her passion, and she enjoys getting to know patients and their stories and making them feel at home. Yuri's goal is to become a Mental health Therapist. In her spare time, she enjoys road trips, spending time with family and friends, going for long walks with her dogs, kayaking, hiking, as well as wacthing crime documentaries.
