Compression Socks

Custom Fit Compression Socks in Calgary

At Momentum Health, we offer custom sized compression socks that are designed to improve circulation and reduce swelling in the lower legs and feet. Our socks apply graduated pressure, with the strongest compression at the ankle and gradually decreasing as the sock goes up the leg. This medical grade compression (20-30mmHg) is proven to be effective in alleviating discomfort and fatigue in the legs, as well as reducing the risk of blood clots.

Our team of clinicians will measure your calf, ankle, and distance to your knee to ensure that you get a pair of socks that are sized correctly for you.

We don't charge an additional fee for measuring or fitting, and we'll make sure that you get the right product to support your goals. Although we're not permitted to direct bill for products like compression socks, we'll provide you with the documentation you need to submit a claim to your benefit plan.

Compression socks are useful for a variety of purposes, including long flights or car rides, standing for long periods of time, pregnancy, running, and recovery from surgery or injuries. If you're unsure whether compression socks are the right intervention for you, our team can help you make an informed decision based on your individual needs and concerns.

Your socks should be put on first thing in the morning and worn throughout the day. It's also important to keep them clean and dry to prevent irritation or infection.

Pro Tip - don't put them in the dryer and they will last longer.

Compression socks have a number of potential benefits. They can help to reduce swelling, improve blood circulation, and alleviate discomfort and fatigue in the legs. They may also be helpful for people who are recovering from surgery, have varicose veins, or are on their feet a lot.

Many benefit plans cover a pair or two each year! Be sure to ask your insurance provider what your coverage is and if you need a prescription.

One of our most popular products is the business stocking or an athletic compression sock.

We can also provide compression sleeves for certain arm conditions!

The Most Common Questions our Physiotherapists get about Compression Socks

Q: Can compression socks be too tight?

A: Yes! Some discomfort is expected but if they are creating pins and needles sensation, or pain in the calf or foot, they are too tight

Q: Are compression socks appropriate post-hip or knee replacement?

A: Yes! They lessen the chance of developing a blood clot (DVT) from a major orthopedic surgery like a joint replacement. Compression socks will also help reduce swelling from the surgery that travels to the ankles due to gravity

Q: Why do some people wear compression socks on a long flight?

A: Compression socks help improve circulation and reduce the risk of developing a blood clot on long haul flights. They also help reduce the aches and pains from being stationary

Q: When is the best time of day to wear compression socks?

A: Wear compression socks throughout the waking hours of the day, but take them off when you sleep to allow the skin a break

Q: Will compression socks help leg cramps?

A: Yes! Compression socks will improve blood flow and reduce the accumulation of exercise induced metabolic by-products that may cause muscle cramping

Q: How do compression socks work?

A: The compression on the calf and ankle increases blood flow velocity in your veins and arteries. The compression also helps reduce the leaking of fluids from the vessels which helps limits swelling, and prevents blood from flowing the wrong way (and therefore pooling) in the veins by reducing its ability to expand

Q: Are compression socks good for Police Officers?

A: Of course! Police officers may spend many hours sitting in their patrol vehicles before getting up. Like someone on a long haul flight, compression socks will help battle the swelling, and leg pain
