Meet The Deerfoot Team

Russ Gothard

Russ Gothard,
Physiotherapist, Clinic Director
BSc (Hon.) Psych, MScPT

Russ was born in the UK before moving to the Calgary area as a kid. He spent way too many years in university, completing undergrad degrees focused on zoology, computer science, and psychology before finding his calling as a physio, graduating from the University of Alberta with his Master's in Physical Therapy. Since then he has continued his education with post-grad courses in vestibular physiotherapy, spinal manipulation, advanced dry needling, the GLA:D hip/knee osteoarthritis program, TMJ dysfunction, modern manual therapy, neurokinetic therapy, FMS, and more.

Russ takes a global approach to movement, taking the whole body into account to determine the source of pain and dysfunction. He uses manual therapy and modalities such as dry needling to improve pain and function in the short-term, and tailored exercises to make long-term changes.

On the weekends you can often find him climbing, camping, or paddling when it's warm, or playing guitar and watching bad movies with his cats Spike and Dru when it's cold.

Mark Taylor

Mark Taylor,
Physiotherapist
MScPT, BHPE

Mark was born and raised in Calgary and graduated from Mount Royal University with a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education before completing his Master of Science in Physical Therapy degree at the University of Alberta. He has completed the Level 1 requirements in Orthopedics and Functional Dry Needling (FDN). Mark has a special interest in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and vestibular conditions. When not at the clinic you can find Mark on the ball diamond as he is a nationally certified Softball Canada Umpire; on the curling ice pretending to win the Brier; or watching his beloved Flames and Blue Jays on TV.

Heather Curilla

Heather Curilla,
Physiotherapist / Redcord Practitioner

Heather Curilla has many years of experience as a physiotherapist here in Calgary. She has taken numerous post- graduate courses in this field. Some of these include the Gunn IMS certification, Intermediate manual therapy, and the Redcord Neurac certification.

Currently, Heather’s sole focus is work with an apparatus called the Redcord Suspension System.

This Norwegian founded suspension exercise system is effective for treating injuries and pain by activating core muscles, correcting muscle imbalances and offering progressive strengthening through the use of the systems’ bungees and ropes.

Heather has been working with the Redcord for the past 10 years and is very impressed with the results that this system brings for patients. Working with this exercise-based apparatus truly demonstrates that exercise IS medicine.

In her spare time, she loves to golf and jog. Heather’s personal goal is to run a half marathon once a year!

Come HANG with Heather!

Kieran Liew

Kieran Liew,
Physiotherapist
MScPT, BSc.Kin

Kieran has been a practicing physiotherapist at Momentum Health since 2018, after receiving her Master of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Toronto. Kieran’s passion for helping others through physiotherapy began after her own experience rehabilitating a shoulder injury she sustained as a varsity swimmer. Since graduating, she has completed courses in pelvic floor physiotherapy, pre and postnatal care, Functional Dry Needling, and has completed her Level I Manual Therapy Certification. This training allows her to treat bowel and bladder incontinence, dyspareunia (painful intercourse), diastasis recti, and pelvic pain during pregnancy. Kieran is one of the few pelvic floor physiotherapists in Calgary that treat men as well as women.

Kieran loves supporting women during their pregnancies, preparing for labour and delivery, and assisting in pelvic floor rehab after birth.

Kieran’s approach to rehabilitation is client-centred; she utilizes exercise, manual therapy, and education to help her clients remember the joy they feel when moving their body. As a dedicated lifelong learner, she plans to complete additional courses in manual therapy and pain science. In her spare time, Kieran enjoys hiking, climbing, and playing with any dogs she encounters.
