Wendy Coombs

Wendy Coombs,

Wendy Coombs is the current owner of Momentum Health and Evidence Sport and Spinal Therapy, our growing group of inter-collaborative multidisciplinary rehabilitation clinics in Calgary Alberta, Canada. She is a recent Learning Chair and President Elect for the Entrepreneurs Organization. She is on the boards of the Alberta Women Entrepreneurs and Calgary Entrepreneurs Organization.

Wendy Coombs is the current owner of Momentum Health and Evidence Sport and Spinal Therapy, our growing group of inter-collaborative multidisciplinary rehabilitation clinics in Calgary Alberta, Canada. She is a recent Learning Chair and President Elect for the Entrepreneurs Organization. She is on the boards of the Alberta Women Entrepreneurs and Calgary Entrepreneurs Organization. Previously she was an owner and CEO of Advantage Health. She has grown fourteen separate businesses from a single sole charge physiotherapy clinic into medical centers offering physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, Physiatry, sport and spinal medicine, psychology, acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, kinesiology, personal training, and retail goods. She has developed stand-alone rehabilitation centres as well as clinics integrated into medical centres offering family medicine, dental, and optical services. She is a prior Dale Carnegie trainer. She enjoys educating and mentoring physiotherapy private business owners from across Canada as part of the Private Practice Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She has been a member of the Entrepreneur’s Organization since 2005. She has two Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta. She was a finalist for the RBC 2009 Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Award in the Trailblazer category.

Shaun Macauley

Shaun received his Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physiotherapy from the University of Manitoba. Shaun is fortunate to have worked across a broad range of rehabilitation spanning from providing injury prevention lectures to youth athletics, injury management for numerous sporting events, to the treatment of chronic back pain. 

Shaun received his Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation in Physiotherapy from the University of Manitoba. Shaun is fortunate to have worked across a broad range of rehabilitation spanning from providing injury prevention lectures to youth athletics, injury management for numerous sporting events, to the treatment of chronic back pain. Shaun passionately directs his time to improving patient care collaboration not only within the Momentum Evidence Models, but also across our public and private healthcare systems. Shaun also enjoys mentoring recently graduated Physiotherapists & Kinesiologists. Shaun has completed his designations in Spinal & Peripheral manipulation, Diagnostic Imaging, Acupuncture, and Intramuscular Stimulation including Gunn IMS.

Dan Matchullis

Dan Matchullis,

Dan is the Director of Operations for Momentum Health and Evidence Sport and Spine. He is passionate about working hard to foster collaboration within multi-disciplinary clinic settings and creating new healthcare models. He brings his management expertise and entrepreneurial spirit to the team, continually seeking innovative ways to expand services offered to best suit the needs of Albertans.

Dan is the Director of Operations for Momentum Health and Evidence Sport and Spine. He is passionate about working hard to foster collaboration within multi-disciplinary clinic settings and creating new healthcare models. He brings his management expertise and entrepreneurial spirit to the team, continually seeking innovative ways to expand services offered to best suit the needs of Albertans. He was inspired to join the profession originally by volunteering at an acquired brain injury rehabilitation unit in Winnipeg, which continues to drive his passion for helping patients have impactful rehabilitation experiences today. He strongly believes in the Adam Grant quote “The most meaningful way to succeed is to help others succeed”. Moving to the Calgary area after graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Master of Physical Therapy, he has enjoyed most of his spare time in the mountains. Dan is an avid skier, backpacker, and camping enthusiast and is always ready for a new adventure.

Heidi Veldman

Heidi Veldman,
Nurse Practitioner

Heidi Veldman has been a Registered Nurse for 38 years and a Family Nurse Practitioner for 6 years. She has worked as a NP for Blood Tribe and continues to work part-time in the Lethbridge Regional hospital's ICU, as an RN.

Heidi received her RN from Lethbridge College, and her BN from the University of Lethbridge.  She went on to do her Masters while Instructing nursing students for the University of Lethbridge. She completed her NP through Athabasca University and followed that education with an IIWCC certificate for wound care.

Heidi is blessed with her husband of 35 years, 5 children, 4 in-law children and 15 grandkids; who are all the joy of her life.

Heidi's hobbies are skiing and spending time with her family and her grandkids, working on her yard and travelling.

Azmeena Lila

Azmeena Lila,

Azmeena Lila has been a Registered Nurse for the past 9 years. She has spent most of her nursing career working in the Cardiac Sciences unit at Foothills Medical Center and continues to do so.

Azmeena started her nursing career at the University of Manitoba and completed the RN program on the Dean’s List right here at the University of Calgary. She is a proud member of the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.

When Azmeena is not at work you can find her spending quality time with her family at the local parks or travelling. 

Shannon McCarthy

Shannon was born in Calgary and raised in the Columbia Valley spending most of her time outdoors hiking, snowboarding and playing hockey. Shannon graduated from the University of Calgary and has been a Registered Nurse for 7 years at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. She recently moved back to Invermere with her partner and son and is now working at the Invermere District Hospital as an acute care/ER nurse. Shannon is excited to bring her experience to the Momentum Health Team.

Joanne Duong

Joanne Duong,

Joanne graduated from Mount Royal University in 2019 and has been working as a Registered Nurse ever since. She specializes on an acute, internal medicine and oncology unit and works alongside a huge multidisciplinary team such as doctors, PT/OT, and social work. Joanne strives to provide safe, kind, and compassionate care, not only to her patients but their families as well. She also takes most pride in being able to speak Cantonese in which she can advocate for this group of patients. 

When she isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and 2.5-year-old puppy, Kiki. She is a huge foodie and loves to try new restaurants and activities.

Melanie Shannon

Melanie Shannon,

Melanie received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of West Texas A&M where she pursued an NCAA soccer scholarship. Following this, she continued her education to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia and a Master in Nurse Practitioner. Melanie’s passion is to work in collaboration within multi-disciplinary settings to provide safe, kind, and compassionate care. She is grateful to join Momentum as a Nurse Practitioner with previous experience in oncology, rural medicine, emergency, and primary care.

In her free time, Melanie loves to spend time outdoors adventuring with her Golden Retriever Luca, and her partner who both bring much joy to her life!

Laura Swaby

Laura Swaby,

Laura has been a registered nurse since June 2021 when she completed her Pediatric Nursing Degree back in her home country of England. Laura worked with children of all ages in Alder Hey Childrens hospital across many departments including mental health.

She made the move to Canada with her partner and daughter in May 2022 and has been working in Banff Mineral Springs Hospital in acute care, long term care, day surgery and the emergency room. 

When Laura is not working she will be out with her family kayaking, biking, and exploring Canada. 

Laura Cardwell

Laura is a registered nurse who obtained her BSN through the University of Victoria in 2009. She enjoys her career and has had the opportunity to work in general medicine, psychiatry, community public health and mental health. She loves the diversity of her career and meeting new people. While she was born and raised in Calgary she moved to BC in her early 20’s and has never been able to move away. She loves living in Cranbrook with her son and enjoys exploring the area and also the world. To date she has travelled to over 30 different countries and hopes to add more!

Vikki Small

Vikki Small,

Vikki is a highly experienced practitioner with a kind, compassionate demeanour and a holistic approach to mental health. She holds a Master of Counselling in Applied Psychology, and she has been a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists since 2007. Vikki has provided counselling support for a range of presenting concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, low self-esteem, and stress/anger management. Experienced in private practice, neurorehabilitation, and education settings, Vikki maintains the highest professional and ethical standards. Evidence-based treatments are the cornerstone of client success, with applied modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Vikki also has specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms (i.e., by reducing the vividness and emotion associated with trauma memories). Through a respectful, collaborative framework, Vikki helps identify treatment goals and interventions that are both client-centered and mutually established. She looks forward to supporting Momentum Health’s valued patients on their treatment journeys.

At Momentum Health, Vikki is pleased to offer online treatment services through Microsoft Teams, with weekday evening and Saturday appointments available.

Alisha Mohamed-Kassam

Alisha Mohamed-Kassam,
Physiotherapist, Clinic Director

Alisha graduated with her Masters in Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2012. She also completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Alberta. Alisha is also certified to practice biomedical dry needling, acupuncture, and spinal and peripheral manipulations. Before beginning her physical therapy training, Alisha worked as an Exercise Therapist, as well as a trainer and coach for multiple men's, women's, and youth ball hockey teams. Alisha has well over five years of experience working with the Calgary Police and over ten years working in the Ogden/Lynnwood/Millican community, providing guided exercise and targeted rehabilitation solutions for WCB cases, MVA claims and sporting injuries.

Along with ball hockey, Alisha has played competitive soccer, volleyball, and basketball. She also enjoys snowboarding, skating, hiking, running, and travelling.

Lee Macauley

Lee graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Physical Therapy degree in 2006. Lee previously worked as a physiotherapist with the Canadian Back Institute for five years before she worked in Montreal at International Headquarters with Cirque Du Soleil. Lee was a Research Clinician at the University of Calgary and has contributed to studies for Concussion Management in Hockey Players, Knee Osteoarthritis Prevention and Injury Prevention in Soccer Players.

It has always been important for Lee to remain educated in the latest information and techniques related to providing superior therapy. She uses evidence-informed assessment and treatment methods with a special interest in persistent pain. She treats the "whole-person" using a biopsychosocial informed framework to empower individuals to find conservative solutions for pain management. Lee is certified in acupuncture with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada and Gunn IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation). She is also certified in spinal and peripheral manipulation and completed her orthopaedic Level 2 Upper and Lower Quadrant training in manual therapy. She continues to expand her professional knowledge, with her primary focus on Pelvic Health. She has specific training and experience in Women’s Health for diastasis recovery and improving pelvic girdle pain during and after pregnancy. Lee has completed additional specialty training in bladder & bowel incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, dyspareunia (painful intercourse), and pregnancy & postpartum corrective exercise. Lee is passionate about health promotion and the preventive measures people can take to maintain and improve their overall health and well-being.

Outside of the clinic, Lee is a busy mom of 2 and she enjoys spending time being active downhill and cross country mountain biking, golfing, snowboarding and hiking. She also enjoys photography and reading.

Dr. Allykhan Lila

Dr. Allykhan Lila,

Dr. Lila completed his high school education in Calgary, AB and then he moved to Winnipeg, MB where he spent time studying in the field of Microbiology. To further his education he went to Toronto, ON to complete his chiropractic training at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. He graduated with clinical honors and was on the Dean’s List for academic excellence.

Dr. Lila uses an evidence-based, diversified approach to care that includes manual therapy, instrument assisted soft tissue therapy, instrument assisted manipulation, myofascial release therapy, and numerous other modalities to help his patients achieve optimal function and health.

Dr. Lila has a special interest in working with all individuals struggling with complex conditions, pain, and dysfunction. Dr. Lila is also passionate about providing ergonomic coaching for office workers and individuals working in the labor field and trades.

Dr. Lila is a member of the College of Chiropractors of Alberta, Chiropractic Association of Alberta, and the Canadian Chiropractic Association. Dr. Lila welcomes new patients and former patients and is looking forward to being a part of your personal health care team.

In Dr. Lila’s free time, he enjoys spending time with family and is a cricket enthusiast.

Dr. James Lemieux

Dr. James Lemieux,
Chiropractor
B.Sc., D.C., M.Sc.R.S.(Rehab Med.)

James graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science and then received a Doctor of Chiropractic (cum laude) from the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon. James keeps up to date by earning many post-graduate certificates in sports therapy including Active Release Technique, Graston Technique and Titleist Performance Institute. Following 20 years in clinical practice, he earned a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Medicine from the University of Alberta, where he published two papers and spearheaded the GLAD back program. Currently he is working on his Pain Management Certificate from the University of Alberta.

 

When it comes to chronic persistent low back pain and hip or knee osteoarthritis, he supports the use of evidence-based practice, especially exercise and education as primary treatment modalities. His main treatment method is the virtual GLAD back and Hip/Knee programs for patients unable to do in person sessions. He is also involved in educating future GLAD back clinicians throughout Alberta and Canada, and he is a member of the Alberta Bone and Joint Institute's clinical steering committee on back and knee pain.

 

These days when not in clinic, he enjoys skiing, mountain biking and golf with his wife and kids. 

Alexys Cruz

Alexys Cruz,

Growing up in Ontario, Alexys earned an Honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health Science at York University. Throughout his university journey, he dedicated time to volunteer at a local physiotherapy clinic, enriching his understanding of rehabilitation. With a background in the Independent Medical Evaluation sector, he has served as both a Case Manager and a Registered Kinesiologist, specializing in Functional Abilities Evaluations, Physical Demands Analyses, and Job Site Assessments. Alexys is also certified by Ergo Inc. to conduct office ergonomic assessments.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Alexys embraces an active lifestyle at the gym and channels his energy into perfecting his golf swing. He has a soft spot for basketball, but the thrill of trying out new sports always lures him in.

Chantel Bourne

Chantel was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. In 2019 Chantel had completed her program and became a certified Medical Office Assistant, and Health Unit Coordinator. After nearly 3 years with Momentum Health, Chantel had the opportunity to cover the locum Office Manager position! Chantel enjoys being in a career where she is able to help patients with their road to recovery!  When Chantel is not working, she enjoys camping, spending time with her family, and heading out to the mountains.

Matthew Wong

Matt is a graduate from the University of Calgary with a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology, majoring in Mind Sciences. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Matt's natural passion in human sciences is shown through his active lifestyle. From playing competitive baseball for the university team, to recreationally playing ice hockey and tennis. Matt also enjoys the team dynamic within the clinical setting, always striving to make the experiences of both the coworkers and clients as positive as possible.
